Elf Fantasy Fair clothes 2011 by VictorianRedRose Elf Fantasy Fair clothes 2011 by VictorianRedRose
All these clothes were handmade, most of them based on a pattern but everytime altered in some sort of way (because I didn't like the sleeves, wanted the skirt to be more flowy, blahblah,...)
Really typical, why make it easy if you can also do it the hard way :D

It was my first attempt at making something Victorian looking with quite little resources, and my goal is ofcourse to eventually make some kind of bustle skirt with an overflow of details as they always were in the eighties :D
But that's probably still going to take a while before I get the right pattern (and then hopefully understand what it is you have to do, as I'm not that experienced yet), fabrics and time.
But oh well, we'll see, some day ^^

Thanks a lot  :D Though I hope I'll be able to make something truly, all the way Victorian for other upcoming fantasy fairs :D Because this wasn't nearly as bombastic as what I wanted lol :p

Thanks :D Yeah that's indeed the reason why you got to love taffeta ^^ Actually the colour is quite coperish red, but with the black shine it has it just seems so luxurious and dark :D Plus, it's cheap. Yeah, ultimate combination B-)

Yeay thanks a lot :D Yeah the fabrics go well together, I really love them when they're combined  Although you can't see the details and the 'richness' of the creme coloured fabric, quite a shame actually because it's way nicer than is visible on this picture =/ But I think it matched the red taffeta so nicely because it has a nice soft golden glance, though on first sight you wouldn't think they would match eachother because they look nothing alike O_o
Anyway, thanks a lot I'm really glad you like it :D

Yeay for Renaissance fairs, they rule, right? :D It's indeed quite lovely to wear (if it's hot and dry outside) but not detailed/bombastic enough to my personal taste XD I'd looooooove to walk around in an almost over the top decorated bustle dress, like they always did in the 1880s  Ohh, someday B-) :D
Thanks for the nice comment btw!

Yeah life would be awesome when you could walk around like that, right :D But preferably without all the obsessive etiquette that went with it, lol ^^
But still such a shame you can't wear long full skirts, hats and matching parasols anymore without looking like you're going to a costume party :(

Lol :D To be perfectly honest, I wouldn't like it one bit if all 'normal' people would all of a sudden start to wear such clothes. But just here and there some people who also feel like they're born in the wrong century, so we can walk in our beautiful clothes without being 'freaks' :D Would be awesome yeah B-)
Oh well, someday  I don't know how or when but it's certainly my only lifegoal, lol :D

Nice :D Yes, long live those sanity-saving fantasy fairs, lol. I myself have two a year, and they're both 2 or 3 days but I mostly only go for two because after that you've seen it all :D Though just walking around in those clothes is already worth the money for me. As long as it's sunny and warm ofcourse :p
Don't you have anything special you made for your fairs you can show on DA? ^^

Hmm.. what kind of a bolero? and underneath or above the jacket? ^^
I can actually really imagine why you also feel like there's something missing, the extra colours would tie it all a bit more together. And that was why I was originally planning on making little puff sleeves of the creme coloured fabric that peeked out of the red jacket, but I ran out of time so decided to keep it like this ^^ So that's probably something for later :D

oh thank you so much for saying that  :D I was already waiting for years to make something sort of like this (though this isn't nearly as detailed and bombastic as I would like) and actually I really wanted to make a 'rose dress' al allong, but I don't know how to use the flowers without it looking like I just randomly stuck some fake flowers on my skirt, if you know what I mean :D
but some sort of dark red and white dress with rose print and some beautiful dark roses spread over it would be soooo incredibly nice

have you ever watched "jane austen"'s movies or read her books?
i really love her stories, cause she lived about 1800 century and her stories are about romance and detailed 1800 ;D

haha yes I've seen one movie I believe, maybe even more hmm can't remember exactly. It's a bit too 'early' for my taste (I'm more of a 2nd half of the 19th century person, lol :D) but it's still fun to watch, with all those Empire style dresses :D
And thank you again for your lovely comments, that's really so sweet of you to say so ^^

aww thank you so much  :D the cream coloured fabric is actually nicer in reallife, the photo didn't quite capture the tones of it. And it even was rather cheap to buy, so hey, that's perfect :D

well yeah I did some little things in the years before but they were very simple , just basic cirkleskirts and stuff, and a bit more Romantic/Victorian Gothlike in colours and design, less victorian ^^
I was pretty pleased with how it turned out myself, because I was sooo afraid I'd mess it up along the way and then would have waisted a lot of fabric I couldn't replace immediately xD But I always panic and imagine the most stupid doom scenarios so it almost always ends up better then I'd have expected :D
So, anyway, thanks a lot :D

Ah, I used to be the same way! And I still am a little bit, sometimes. When I'm working on something not super familiar, I have a mini panic attack before I start cutting the fabric. But there hasn't been anything too awful that's happened so far.
I suppose it's alright to be prepared for the worst scenario though, lol.

yes it can never get any worse then you've imagined up front :D
And indeed, the cutting of the fabric is for me always the most nervous moment. Anyway, you indeed seem to be doing a good job so it's pretty useless to still hang on to those doom scenarios :D But I can totally imagine myself, it's more of a habit after a while ^^

I'll admit I've pretty much overcome the panic attacks, because I know if I screw something up sooo incredibly badly, I can always just buy more fabric if it comes down to it. But I've never had to do that, so hopefully it never comes to that n__n;; Thanks, btw ^_^

You really shˇuld try these sort of clothes, you know, being a dedicated drawer and all, you really have to do some very thorough investigation for your female steampunk creations. Really get in to their mindset and all. hehe xD With a lovely stuffed-man hat on your head, bet that would inspire the hell out of you B-) or traumatize, also possible ofcourse.
I'm sure you'd win the first price of most dedicated male artist, hooraaay :happybounce:

Tssss, these artists of today, no real dedication at all. I bet Salvador Dali dressed up as a pocketwatch or giraffe all the time B-) But on the other hand, he might have been a bit wonky in the head, so that probably excuses you from having to walk around in women dresses xD Lucky you.
How's the steampunk girl coming up btw? ^^

Well, Dali is pretty crazy indeed, but I'm not... that much... yeah.

I'm still waiting for those books to arrive before I can put something on the paper, but I still wanna try some of your ideas about the animals/fruits and stuff on her hat! :D So I think next week or so I'll try to develop something ^^

oh okay, what a shame you have to wait so long for two books =/ I've btw just seen a picture in a collection book of the Kyoto Museum which probably makes clear you can't overdo her hair anyway, if that ever would be a worry. Apparantly people really did these kind of things in the 1770's/80's, hilarious :D [link] Almost makes you think the dead seagulls/kittens/bear/squirrels of the middle of the 19th century were kind of 'modest' :O_o: Anyway, good luck ^^

Yeah, usually it takes about a month for my purchases to arrive here in Brazil. So we gotta be wait very patiently :(

Humm, but what do you mean by "overdo her hair"? I assume that it cannot be toooooo fancy right?

LOL, actually that picture gave some ideas as well! Maybe I will try something smaller but iconic as well! Thanks for that! :D

I find ships on your hairdo of already half a meter high a bit more ridiculous than fancy actually ^^ So you can't top that, or you'd have to put someting even more gigantic on her (and that's what I ment ^^)
